What do we mean by "Double Cleaned" firewood?

What Our "Double Cleaning" Process Entails
I thought I would explain in more detail what our "Double Cleaning" process entails. Basically, we have a staged process. After the logs are split in our firewood processors, there is an amount of sawdust, chips, or slivers of wood produced. With certain products, like our cheaper end stovewood, the wood can be so twisted or knotted that there can be quite a lot of these initial chips and slivers.
As I mentioned, we run the logs over the first cleaner, as you can see in this video, to strip out this initial issue. Then, our logs are kiln dried in our kiln, which runs on the chips and waste we are talking about-unlike many firms that use gas or oil to dry their logs.
After the drying stage, the next issue is that the bark often loosens off the logs. With some species, this can be at quite high levels. Most other suppliers just tip the logs and loose bark into their packs and leave it at that. However, here at Northern Firewood, we have an additional stage.
We have invested in the very latest piece of machinery from the French company Rabaud. We believe our machine is the first of its kind in the UK. This machine has a huge cleaning bed to remove as much bark as possible-see the video. This is done before filling our bulk packs, but also for our bulk trade customers, this process is done while filling the trucks.
So there you have it-how our double cleaning process works. The way we then use this waste material to fire our log drying kilns is just a sight to behold, hence the reason we believe we are one of the most eco-friendly firewood producers in the country.
